We are happy to welcome Visiting Fellow Martin Brüne to the KLI!
Martin is currently Professor of Psychiatry and Head of the Division of Social Neuropsychiatry and Evolutionary Medicine at the LWL University-Hospital, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany.
His research is rooted in evolutionary theory, exploring how and why cognition, emotion, and behavior in psychiatric conditions relate to the adaptive functions of psychological traits. His current clinically oriented projects investigate social cognition in psychosis and personality disorders, its links to social functioning and nonverbal behavior, behavioral performance in evolutionary game-theoretical contexts, the influence of oxytocin on social perception and cognition, nonverbal interaction in therapeutic settings, as well as the genetic, epigenetic, and psychopathology in nonhuman animals.
During his fellowship at the KLI from 27 October to 11 November 2025, Martin will be working on his project, “Evolution in Psychotherapy.”
Here’s wishing Martin a productive time at the KLI!
