Eliezer Flores-Garza is a systems biologist and PhD candidate in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, supervised by Prof. Reiko Tanaka. His research uses mechanistic mathematical modelling and nonlinear dynamical systems to investigate how interactions between biological processes shape disease development and progression. He has applied this approach to tuberculosis, atopic dermatitis, and periodontitis, with a particular interest in the mechanisms that determine disease initiation, persistence, and recovery.
He holds a BSc in Genomic Biotechnology from UANL and an MSc in Systems Biology from UNAM, both in Mexico. During his doctoral studies, he also conducted research at Osaka University. At the KLI, he will further investigate how mathematical modelling can reveal the principles governing the dynamics of complex biological systems.
