We are delighted to welcome our new Visiting Fellow, Marcelo Sánchez-Villagra, to the KLI.
Marcelo is a professor of Paleobiology at the University of Zurich and Director of its Department of Paleontology. His research focuses on vertebrate evolutionary morphology and paleobiology, as well as cultural macroevolution and the archaeology of South America.
He is the author of Embryos in Deep Time (2012) and The Process of Animal Domestication (2022), and the editor of several other books and journal volumes. He also regularly leads paleontological fieldwork in Venezuela.
Marcelo will be a Visiting Fellow at the KLI from August 27, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
His KLI project is titled “The Natural and Cultural History of the Orinoco River” and aims to explore the Orinoquian biosphere and “ethnosphere”, laying the groundwork for a broader synthesis of this remarkable region.
We wish Marcelo a productive and enjoyable stay at the KLI and in Austria.
